A Very Short Post

Hi All,

The title is accurate and there is good reason for that.

You see, we’ve gotten close enough to done with the interior that

• We’ve made arrangements for my mom to arrive in just over two weeks.
• We’ve asked to have the shipping container hauled away next week.
• The contractors have removed most of their stuff from inside the house.

Now, to be clear, there is still a bunch that has to happen. Including:

• Shower glass installation.
• All kinds of cleaning.
• Final installation of a few electrical outlet and switch covers (these were waiting for the last of the painting to get done).
• Final installation of the dining room light, which is waiting for the table to return so we don’t walk into it and break it.
• Exterior painting.
• Redoing the concrete in the front entryway to make it smooth and usable.
• Installation and test of the HRV.
• Final inspections.

So, we’re not quite done, but it’s close, and most of what remains is pretty simple stuff.

As I write this, Anne is vacuuming up all the drywall dust she can find and planning to move all the food into the new fridge. And starting tomorrow, we should be able to go up and down the stairs without going outside and using the ramp. Friday we also begin emptying the shipping container and piling the contents up in the house.

So, we’re busy today. But while we do all of that, here are a few photos of the kitchen as it looked on Thursday night.

The end really is in sight. It’s crazy, but it’s happening. With luck, Anne will cook pizza in the new oven in a week, or maybe even on July 1 for Canada Day!

Oh, and there is a dog update. We went to the vet the other day, but it turns out she was due for her annual exam and additional lab work, which we are still waiting to hear about. As far as we and the vet can tell her blood work is still stable, but until the lab work comes back, we don’t know for certain. Next week I hope to have a more detailed update.

[LATE BREAKING NEWS: the shipping container is empty. The house is a disaster full of boxes and stuff, but the shipping container is empty and can go away at any time!]
