As the World Turns

Hi all.

Sorry. I’m a bit distracted here. I was going to write about the kitchen reno research, but then I took Tinkerbelle to the vet.

She’s been a bit lethargic lately, and I was vaguely worried. That worry was somewhat aggravated by her relatively sudden interest in eating dirt. Asking Google why dogs eat dirt gets you no useful answers of any kind, so I called the vet and made an appointment to get her a checkup. I honestly thought they would tell me I was worried about nothing and hand me a bill, but that’s not what happened.

First the vet discovered a new heart murmur. No such thing was present at her last checkup just a couple of months ago. Then she noted that Tink’s seriously anemic.

She has no fever and we’re not seeing any other real symptoms of anything, so there’s no sure answer to what is going on at this point, but the vet’s best guess at this point is cancer of some kind. That leaves many options still open.

We’ve scheduled her for an abdominal ultrasound and x-rays on Monday morning. We’ll learn more once those are done and the various doctors have a chance to evaluate things.

I won’t claim that everything else is on hold at this point, but this turn of events definitely overshadows everything else has gone on in the past week. That’s all I know.

Give your companions — human or otherwise — a bit of extra attention today, please. As you might expect, these kinds of things always remind me of my own (and everyone else’s) mortality.

More next time.
