My Garage Is Back!
There weren’t many days of contractor activity this past week. In fact there was only one. Other projects that are working on keep blowing up, and ours can be pushed out without issue at this point, so that’s what happens.
Anyway, on the one day they were actually here they removed the terrible French doors and installed the new slider:
There is still interior trim work to do, but the door is in and working well. It’s so much nicer than the old doors.
Yes, that is Cruzer looking out at me as I took the second photo above. Tinkerbelle was busy barking at me through the other upstairs window.
They also removed the pointless side door to the garage:
Obviously the siding remains to be installed, but they’re saving that for next week.
Those items were the last things that impacted the garage. I was able to rearrange and get things into a state where I can use them again without tripping all the time. It’s a big improvement.
Of course there are still a couple of messes to clean up:
The first photo is the pile of “possibly useful, possibly returnable” stuff that needs to be gone through. We don’t get rid of those things until they are done, as they might still be useful for the job. The other photo is the garbage and recycling for the week. This time that included the two French doors, the removed side door, and various associated materials. Not pictured is the big bucket full of broken glass.
I’ll get rid of all that stuff on Saturday morning, or maybe this afternoon. Not sure yet.
In addition to those things, I am slowly caulking the interior of windows that need it, and I put primer on most of the cut ends of the window trim they’ve installed. There are a few I cannot reach, but we’ll take care of those next week when they bring a big ladder.
The rest of my time was spent working on things for the community association. There were a number of updates to the website, and the monthly email was finalized and sent out.
The weather here continues to be unreasonably warm and dry. We’ve had no rain for a while now, and none is forecast for quite some time. The usual summer lawn watering limits have been extended from Oct 15 to Oct 31, and I am honestly a bit worried about the weather pattern we are seeing. The locals love it, but we really need the rain.

That’s the status for this week. As you can see, my life is entirely reactive. I do very little other than deal with things as they come up. That will change, but not for a while yet.
The contractors will be back on Tuesday (Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving) and with luck they’ll finish all of the siding repairs.
