Greetings once again. You might think that introductory image means I have no photos to share this week. That would be an incorrect assumption. Instead it turns out the two photos I have are simply not that exciting:
Those are the covers over the old hinge and door latch recesses, now installed on the door frame to the main bathroom. I hated looking at the holes, and while these are not perfect, they are an improvement. Anne didn’t even notice the change.
Someday we can tell prospective buyers that the door still exists and that they can reinstall it if they want to. Those covers make it easy.
Of course, the previous owners mucked up the door latch so the recess is too large. They will need to patch that to make it look good, but that is not my problem.
In other news…
- I tried to get the new COVID vaccine yesterday, but they weren’t taking walk ins. The flow of vax up here isn’t steady yet — I’ve read about supply problems in the US too — and the local pharmacy has more reservations than vax at the moment. I did get my flu shot (which has given me a headache today, but otherwise done no harm) and I made an appointment at a different pharmacy to get a COVID vax on Sunday afternoon. Assuming they have enough vaccine to make that happen, I’ll be in good shape.
- I’ve ordered a new computer and — much to my surprise — I am going to attempt to re-enter the Windows world. I decided to do something different and go with a tiny little machine — a Beelink SER7 Mini PC. It’s packed with a fast CPU and a plenty of memory so it should easily do what I need. I may have it in hand next week, but it seems to be coming from Ontario by truck, so who knows. Should Windows drive me too crazy, I can deal. It should be possible to install either Linux or Chrome OS Flex on it in that case.
- Last night I woke up with some new ideas for sculpture, but they require time and space in the shop. At the moment that isn’t happening because I need to get a plumber in there to tune up the boiler for winter. That’s scheduled for Monday. After that I may get back to closing off the mechanical room to keep dust out of there. It needs a door, among other things. That isn’t the next house project I’d intended to work on, but it might be what next gets my attention. If I get to it, this new sculpture idea will generate sawdust, so closing that up seems like a wise step.
- On Sunday I took a walk with Heather, my art school buddy. We hiked the same trail that I was on last week. You know the one: I took a selfie on it while wearing a bright yellow-green shirt. It was really nice to get out and talk with another human being again.
- Oh, very exciting: I got my teeth cleaned.
- We also celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving. It’s such a low key holiday in comparison with American Thanksgiving, but it is still an excuse to overeat. That much is the same.
- American politics continues to be appalling, and I continue to spend too much time watching the sinking ship. Of course, the rest of the world isn’t doing all that well either. It’s very depressing.
- I did a bunch more work on the community association website. As I keep saying, that project will never end, but I am improving things.
I wish I had more to report but that isn’t the case. Some of that lack is due to time lost to the dogs.
Cruzer has taken to getting me up sometime between 6 and 6:45 every morning, and I have to take him out and feed him or there is no peace. Anne needs her sleep, so I do those things and then crash in a chair downstairs to keep him quiet. Anne gets up a bit later and I keep snoozing until I have made up whatever sleep I didn’t get in the night. That loss could be thanks to one or more of: Cruzer’s early rise, Tinkerbelle needing to go out at some point, or my brain not properly turning off.
Some mornings Cruzer’s separation anxiety is even worse and I have to sit downstairs for at least a couple of hours while working on the laptop. If I don’t, he cries as if his life is coming to an end.
In short, it was not a productive week. But I am starting to think productivity is grossly overrated. Laziness is good. Maybe I need to go get a couple of books and sit down with them. That actually sounds fun right now.
Nothing else to report this time. How are you?
