Quickie
I found that photo by searching for “chaos” here on Medium. I have no clue why it is categorized under that term, but I feel like that a lot lately, particularly after seeing any news from the USA.
Sadly I have no photos to share this week, but there will be some next time.
The good news is that we passed the framing inspection on Monday, and the spray foam insulation guys started on Thursday morning. They got through about half of the ceiling and a bit of the walls, which was great progress. And they are back this morning, continuing the job.
As of last night they thought they would need Monday as well to finish the spray foam, but nothing is certain. While they did get quite a bit done on Thursday, there is a lot of cleanup to do in addition to the remaining spray application. Foam never goes on smoothly. You have to scrape it down so that drywall can be secured properly. It’s a whole process.
In any case, they will finish in a day or two, and I will get photos to share. With luck the drywall will be going up, though I can’t be certain of that. I think they are going to deliver drywall materials to the house on Wednesday.
Before the drywall goes up, we need an engineer to sign off on the spray foam application on the ceiling, and there might also be an insulation inspection by the city. Those should be quick. (Famous last words.)
And in additional drywall news, it seems the drywall contractor is talking about bringing in extra people to do this job because it’s full of weird angles and issues. I can already feel the bank account emptying out.
As mentioned last week, I spent Wednesday working in the Fine Arts shop at Langara College. It was quite an adjustment, going from my lazy way of life to being on my feet all day and talking with students all the time. It took me a full day to recover from the effort, but I really enjoyed it. I still miss teaching.
And I have confirmed that my second boss is working on getting my job in the Makerspace reinstated so that I can work there again if needed. It seems I am still worth something in both jobs, which I find fascinating.
That’s it for this week. Keep safe, and don’t let foreign officials attend sled-dog races in your country without an invitation!
