Random Flowers, Just Because

Late afternoon flowers with blurry dog

Well, it’s Friday, again, and that must mean we’re back in North Vancouver, waiting to hear what the weirdo up there has to say about things going on in his life.

That is why you’re here, isn’t it?

Assuming the answer I want, I’ll start with the windows: No, they are not installed, and no one is working on them yet. But the target date remains the same: this coming Monday morning, September 12th. And I just got a positive response to a text asking for a final confirmation.

I have hope. Tempered by experience, but it’s still hope.

In a related development, last week I checked the weather forecast for the start date. Clearly the universe has a sense of humor:

To be honest, the forecast has changed substantially since then and rain is not the threat it was. As of now there is only a significant chance of rain on Friday. Even that is iffy, since forecasts here are pretty much useless. I think the weather people all swing a dead chicken around over their head three times and then cast an odd and dusty collection of objects on the ground as part of their forecasting process. Anything more than 48 hours out is useless as a result.

Anyway, Monday should be dry and if all goes well the craziness will start. Wish us luck!

Last week I also mentioned “my” nuclear arsenal. That got a couple of responses asking (basically) “Huh?” You may remember the chart:

This is the best I was able to find by way of an explanation:

But it isn’t actually clear they hold any real weapons, so even that feels wrong. Alternative explanations might include:

  • CNN was confused when they created the chart
  • Someone faked the chart and it isn’t real
  • I am a very dangerous person

Feel free to choose your favourite.

I wrote a post about my Ubuntu Linux issues. I’ll link to it for the curious, but note that it’s a technical rant, and nothing like what I usually write about. (Translation: Mom, don’t bother to click.)

There wasn’t much else going on last week. I sent out the latest community email and got the template created for the next one. And I went on a long walk with a friend, just to get out a bit.

Otherwise, I remain very boring. *sigh*

But if you stick around, maybe there will be pictures of window replacement work next week.

In the meantime here’s a fuchsia photo, taken at the same time as the one above.

Spot the dog. Really.

Cheers!
