We’re Done With The Contractors!
That’s the big news this week. A quick modification to the gate was made, and the final bill was paid.
It may not look like much, but that metal bit on the bottom of the gate has been extended and will now keep most dogs in the back yard. If we ever have a dog small enough to escape through there, we’ll have more serious issues to worry about.
Of course that isn’t all that happened lately. But before I get there, here’s a quick word from this week’s sponsor:
Do you worry too much? Do you have a hard time sleeping because of those worries? We’ve got a solution: Neurotic Dog! Your Neurotic Dog will worry about everything for you, relieving you of excess stress. You can sleep while your Neurotic Dog whines and paces, worrying about everything you used to have to deal with, and plenty of things you hadn’t even imagined yet.

Now that the bills are paid, let’s get back to what’s been going on. In fact, let’s go slightly farther back in time for this photo that I forgot to share in the last post:
That’s hoarfrost on a pickup parked down the street. Overnight temperatures have been right around freezing for a couple of weeks now, and it can stay there during the days. On top of that it’s been humid. That combination can result in these unusual ice crystals. They’re quite striking, and this was the best example I noted at the time.
And speaking of the weather, the next few days are supposed to dump some serious snow on us. As of this morning the forecast is for between 24 and 38 cm (9.5 — 15 inches) of snow between Saturday and Tuesday. My guess is we’ll get less than predicted and much of it will melt between snowfalls, but I could be wrong. If so it may be an interesting week. The previous snowfall caused chaos in Vancouver, with some people being stuck in their cars for many hours and scads of flights canceled at YVR. Around our home it was no big deal but apparently that was not the norm.
In other news…
I continue to work on getting the house interior back into the condition it was in before the contractors did their thing. It will take time and I have no photos to share yet, but progress is being made. This weekend I plan to finish trimming out the back door, which has proven challenging.
Also, plans are being set for me to actually work my very part time job at Langara College for the first time, where I will act as the fine arts workshop coordinator for a week in January. I visited the campus the other day to catch up on what has changed since I was last there and had a great time chatting with a few folks. In the process I took this photo at the seabus terminal in Vancouver:
It’s slightly blurry because the phone had to focus through a window. Still, I think it quite impressive.
And finally, I caught this sunrise the other day:
It was beautiful, but the implications of a red dawn aren’t good, at least for sailors and elves.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the holidays, and that all is well.
And remember to get your Neurotic Dog so you can reduce your worrying!
